Sabah cops arrest man over defamatory video on Zara Qairina's death


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun announced that a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of posting a defamatory video on Facebook related to the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

He said a report was received from a member of the public on Sept 13 regarding the viral video, which contained not only defamatory elements and disclosed the identity of a minor, but also involved the improper use of network facilities.

The suspect was arrested at 5.40pm on Tuesday (Sept 16), and two mobile phones were seized from him.

The case is being investigated under Sections 203A and 500 of the Penal Code, Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Comm Jauteh advised the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from making defamatory, humiliating, or provocative statements.

He cautioned that the police will not tolerate any misuse of social media platforms and will take strict action on such cases. - Bernama
