Man feared swept away in Sungai Perak, search underway


IPOH: A 53-year-old man is believed to have been swept away in Sungai Perak near Kampung Pulau Belayar in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman said the man had gone fishing in his boat near the village jetty prior to the incident on Sunday (Sept 14) at about 3.30pm.

"We received a report from the man's 50-year-old wife at about 11pm the same day.

She had received a call from her brother, who had found the man's belongings floating in the river near the jetty at about 8.30pm," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 15).

"The man's boat was also found half-sunken," he said, adding that a search and rescue operation is ongoing to locate the victim.
