PETALING JAYA: The RM60,000 cash incentive promised to Paralympics gold medallist Cheah Liek Hou will be given to him as promised, says Hannah Yeoh.
The Youth and Sports Minister said the Paralympic Council of Malaysia have assured that payment will be made to the Paris Paralympics gold medallist soon.
Yeoh said she was told about Liek Hou's social media post about not receiving his incentive from the Paralympics.
"But I also received an explanation from PCM that the reward will be given soon. They have already set a date.
"With that, I consider this matter resolved," she said at the Arena Premier Hotel in Seremban on Friday (Sept 12).
Liek Hou, 37, who successfully defended his men's singles SU5 (upper limb impairment) title, said on Instagram that he had yet to receive his reward.
However, Liek Hou clarified in another post that the matter only involved PCM, not the ministry nor the National Sports Council.
Meanwhile, Yeoh presented the Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) with a RM275,000 Sports Matching Grant for organising the Fiba Under-16 Asia Cup Division B, taking place at the Karisma Arena in Seremban from Sept 13-19.
She added that the ministry had also approved funds for 20 basketball competitions across the country under the Sports Community Fund.
"Malaysian women's basketball has always made the country proud, especially on the regional stage.
"In fact, Malaysia is the most successful team at the SEA Games with 13 gold medals in the five-on-five category," she said.
With that, Hannah said there is an allocation of RM99,000 for the national teams' preparations ahead of the Thailand SEA Games in December.
