Cops hunt ‘Geng Ammar’ leader over supermarket break-in

LARUT: Police are on the hunt for Muhammad Ammar Mohd Fazdil, suspected leader of 'Geng Ammar', following a supermarket break-in in Batu Kurau on Aug 27.

Selama police chief Supt Sarudin Samah said the 28-year-old suspect from Penang has 24 criminal cases and 10 drug-related offences on his record.

"Besides this case, checks also revealed that the suspect is wanted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"The suspect is believed to still be in the country, and anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Dzul Izham, at 018-9069530 or any nearby police station," he said in a press conference at Selama District Police Headquarters on Friday (Sept 12).

In the incident, the gang allegedly made off with a safe containing about RM14,000 in cash.

Sarudin said two of his accomplices were arrested in Penang and Kedah and charged in the Taiping Sessions Court on Sept 9 and 10.

"One was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty, while the other is awaiting trial," he added. - Bernama
