PETALING JAYA: Malaysia condemns in the strongest possible terms the Israeli airstrikes on Doha, Qatar.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the act of aggression is a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a grave breach of international law.

“It recklessly endangers civilian lives, strikes at the very heart of a sovereign capital and threatens to inflame an already fragile region,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar added that by targeting Qatar, a nation central to mediation and dialogue in the Middle East, Israel has shown utter contempt for peace and diplomacy.

“Such an assault is indefensible and intolerable.

“Malaysia stands in full solidarity with Qatar and calls on the international community to hold Israel accountable for this outrageous aggression,” he said, Bernama reported.

On Tuesday, the Zionist regime launched an attack on the residence of a Hamas leader while the group’s negotiators were discussing the latest ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal from US President Donald Trump.

Qatar News Agency reported that Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli attack, which targeted residential buildings housing several members of the Hamas political bureau in Doha, calling it a blatant violation of international laws and norms and a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents.

In a statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said security forces, civil defence and relevant authorities immediately responded, taking necessary measures to contain the incident and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Embassy in Doha confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in the explosion at Legtaifiya, which occurred following the Israeli attack on the Hamas leaders’ office.

The embassy nevertheless advised Malaysians in Qatar to remain vigilant and avoid the affected area, Bernama reported.

“They are also advised to keep abreast of current developments through official information released by the Qatari authorities,” the embassy said on its official Facebook page.

The statement further noted that the Qatari government has assured that the situation is now fully under control and that the country’s airspace will remain open.

For Malaysians requiring consular assistance, the embassy may be contacted via email at mwdoha@kln.gov.my, by phone at +974 4483 6463 (office hours), or +974 3374 6733 (after office hours).

Several leaders and political parties in Malaysia also denounced the attack.

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party strongly condemned the assault, calling it a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of an independent nation.

“Such actions amount to war crimes that must be resolutely opposed by the international community.

“PAS reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people and the Hamas movement, who continue to defend their homeland despite the genocide committed by the Zionists,” he said in a Facebook post.

Abdul Hadi urged the Muslim world, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the international community to unite in pressuring Israel to halt its aggression.

“We also urge Muslims in Malaysia to strengthen their prayers and support for the Palestinian cause,” he added.

In a separate report, Bernama quoted PKR as calling on the United Nations General Assembly to suspend and ultimately terminate Israel’s membership in the world body following the bombing in Qatar.

The party’s international affairs bureau said such firm measures will be consistent with actions previously taken against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

“We (PKR) strongly condemn the uncivilised and barbaric action of the Israeli regime.

“This attack is not only a form of military aggression against a sovereign territory but also an international act of terrorism, and a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter,” it said in a statement.

It said the attack constituted a violation of a nation’s sovereign rights as guaranteed by the Montevideo Convention and the principle of non-intervention in international relations.

“This attack once again proves that the Israeli Zionist regime poses a serious threat to international peace.

“Malaysia, alongside the global community, must stand firm against this tyranny, defend the rights of the Palestinian people and uphold the principles of international law,” the statement added.

PKR also urged the OIC to immediately convene an emergency meeting to strongly condemn Israel’s reported attack and stressed that the OIC must coordinate diplomatic, political and economic measures in response to what it described as Zionist arrogance.

Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the airstrike was “a deliberate sabotage of global peace efforts”.

“Israel’s strike on Doha is a stark warning that this oppression is no longer solely a Palestinian issue, but a global threat that takes lives, violates sovereignty and destabilises international peace.

“The world must act courageously and take concrete steps to hold Israel accountable, prosecute its war crimes and compel compliance with international law,” he added.

Speaking after launching the International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities at Putrajaya, Anwar said Malaysia is ready to engage leaders in the OIC to respond to the airstrike on Doha.

Anwar also said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has already contacted his Qatar counterpart on the matter.
