PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, who is facing charges of criminal breach of trust, is believed to be in a Middle Eastern country.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said efforts are underway to determine Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan’s whereabouts.
“The country cannot be disclosed, and it does not have an extradition treaty with Malaysia. I was informed that he is in a Middle Eastern country, and we will try to negotiate with the authorities there to bring him back,” he said yesterday.
Azam said the commission has also applied to the Home Ministry to revoke Muhammad Adlan’s passport to facilitate investigations into alleged corruption involving a ministry project.
It was reported previously that the MACC was seeking two men to assist in probes into alleged irregularities linked to the registration, recruitment and storage of biometric data of foreign workers.
Muhammad Adlan and lawyer Mansoor Saat reportedly left Malaysia on May 17 and May 21, 2023, respectively.
Separately, Azam confirmed that there are fresh developments in the investigation into alleged corruption involving Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated and a sand mining concession.
He declined, however, to provide details amid speculation that several individuals linked to the case were recently called to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
