Study being done to create more parking spaces in Seri Kembangan

A CONSULTANT has been engaged to study ways to increase parking availability around the future Seri Kembangan market site at Jalan Pasar, Kampung Baru Seri Kembangan.

Puchong DAP Youth deputy chief Tey Boon Kiat said the parking study was part of a broader effort to ease traffic and provide sufficient space for market-goers once the new building is completed.

"The current plan includes about 80 parking bays but we acknowledge more will be needed, especially on market days," said Tey, who is also MBSJ Zone 22 councillor.

The study includes exploring the feasibility of upgrading Dewan Serbaguna Seri Kembangan – a multipurpose hall located about 230m from the old market site – for additional parking facilities.

"We are working with an appointed consultant to survey available land in the area and assess if the hall space can be modified to create more parking," he said, adding that if feasible, it would be proposed as a separate infrastructure project with its own funding and timeline.

The multipurpose hall is currently used for community events and has parking facilities.

The old car park, a 0.28ha plot on Jalan SK10/3, adjacent to the original Pasar Awam SK10, remains hoarded up due to planned commercial redevelopment.

In an earlier statement, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) said a three-storey commercial development at the site had been approved.

This has further limited parking in the area since April 2023, when traders were moved to a temporary site along Jalan SK6/1.

In an earlier press conference, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki confirmed that the design and technical approvals for the new market had been completed and that construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.

"The market rebuild will take two years and we aim to have it completed by the end of 2027," she said.

Once completed, the market will house 196 licensed traders – the same number currently operating at the temporary site.

Wong said any future stall allocation would follow council licensing policies and added that MBSJ was looking into the status of licences currently held by absentee traders or sublet to others.
