KUALA LUMPUR: The SMS threats made against liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak, were received by a PETRONAS employee, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said it is believed the threats were issued over some unanswered questions.
"The threat to burn the facilities was made (because) there was no response to questions (also sent via SMS) to PETRONAS," he told reporters on Tuesday (Sept 9) after opening the 2025 Asean Women, Peace and Security Summit here.
The National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security was also launched at the event.

"Following this, security has been enhanced at facilities in Bintulu and Sabah because we don't know which one is being targeted.
"The SMS was received from an Indonesian number, but the police are investigating the matter.
"As such, the National Security Council (NSC) recommended that security be tightened at the facilities," added Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister.
It was reported on Monday (Sept 8) that the government had ordered all LNG facilities in Bintulu to tighten security against a possible threat.
In a statement, the NSC said the move was to allow security forces and the relevant agencies to immediately investigate the matter.
It also urged the people not to speculate on the matter.
PETRONAS has confirmed that it is monitoring security at its LNG facilities in Bintulu.
