KOTA KINABALU: National, Malaysia, and Sabah Day events should not only be seen as celebrations but as opportunities to foster unity, peace and harmony among citizens, says Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam

He said these important events should be viewed not just as commemorations but as platforms to bring people together.

“The multi-racial and diverse ethnic communities here must be united not only by celebrating these events but by truly appreciating their meaning and using these platforms to foster peace and harmony,” he said.

He made these remarks while officiating the Merdeka and Malaysia Day events at Kg Timbua in the Ranau district on Saturday (Sept 6).

Gunsalam also urged people to continue working closely with the government to achieve development plans and policies for the wellbeing of the state and its people.

He reminded the public of the many initiatives to help improve various aspects of life, as well as programmes and policies to develop the state.

These efforts include social, economic, educational and basic infrastructure developments.

“What we are able to achieve is also due to the close relationship between the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government and the federal government,” Gunsalam added.

He urged the public to make wise and informed choices when voting in the upcoming 17th state election, which is expected to be called soon.
