Thunderstorms, heavy rain forecast for five states

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas across five states, effective until 10am on Thursday (Apr 9).

The severe weather is expected to affect parts of Kedah, including Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, as well as the entire state of Penang.

In Perak, the warning covers Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.

Selangor's Sabak Bernam district and parts of Johor, namely Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru, are also included in the alert.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
