Chegubard detained over allegedly seditious TikTok video


KUALA LUMPUR: Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, has been detained over a allegedly seditious TikTok video.

The police's Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said police detected the video on Sept 4, uploaded by account holder Edume @4mrankiamat, featuring a man identified as Chegubard delivering a speech deemed to contain seditious elements.

The CID special investigation unit opened an investigation following a police report lodged on Sept 4.

The case is being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Comm Kumar said the 47-year-old suspect, believed to be the person seen speaking in the video, was detained at 10.25pm on Friday (Sept 5), adding that police would apply for a remand on Saturday (Sept 6).
