Spirit of consensus should be upheld, respected, says Tuanku Muhriz

SEREMBAN: The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, reminded Malaysians that the spirit of consensus that guided the formation of an independent and sovereign nation must continue to be upheld and respected.

He said any demands or actions that contradict this spirit must be avoided to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and ensure that its citizens continue to live in harmony while respecting differences.

"This spirit is also enshrined in the National Coat of Arms, which has been gazetted since 1952, bearing the motto ‘Bersekutu Bertambah Mutu’ (United for Greater Strength)," said Tuanku Muhriz at the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Seremban City Council Field today.

Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Tuanku Muhriz said that noble values such as honesty, trustworthiness, mutual assistance, and respect are crucial foundations for building a harmonious and prosperous society.

He urged Muslims to uphold these values in their daily lives, from leaders down to the people.

Muslims, he said, should also demonstrate the beauty, greatness, and purity of Islam to non-Muslim communities through noble character, stressing that Islam places strong emphasis on human relationships.

"Therefore, Muslims must remain united, strengthen bonds of brotherhood, and nurture a spirit of togetherness with other races. Mutual respect among races is essential," he said.

Meanwhile, Aminuddin said that a truly superior Muslim society values advice and embraces a culture of giving and receiving advice.

"This is where the interconnected roles of ulama (religious scholars) and the umara (government leaders) come into play in building a strong and dignified national civilisation. The synergy between the ulama and the umara is the backbone of nation-building.

"In the context of Malaysia Madani, this synergy must be strengthened, not by hostility or mutual suspicion, but through respect, recognition of each other’s roles, and sincerity in the mission to build a developed and prosperous nation," he said.

He added that the country can only flourish when policies are implemented based on sound knowledge and moral strength, with scholars supported in carrying out enlightenment and intellectual development initiatives for the people. - Bernama
