Cosplayer was five months pregnant when she died, say cops

GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed that a 34-year-old woman, who died after falling from the 28th floor of a condominium in Bayan Lepas on Wednesday (Sept 3) night, had been under emotional stress and was five months pregnant.

The victim, identified as Cheah Sze Wei, was found clad in an anime costume when residents discovered her lying motionless on the ground floor at about 9.10pm.

South West district police reported that forensic checks in the second bedroom of her unit revealed an open window.

Her MyKad and a mobile phone, believed to be hers, were also found in the room. Investigations confirmed that she lived in the unit with her mother.

Neighbours informed police they often saw both mother and daughter entering and leaving the condominium unit.

The victim, who was not employed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police forensic teams from the Penang police headquarters later examined the unit and surrounding area but found no signs of foul play.

A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

The case has been classified as sudden death, and police have urged the public not to speculate while investigations are ongoing.
