Ipoh cops hunting for duo who damaged shophouse with stun grenade

IPOH: Police are looking for two individuals suspected of damaging a shophouse in Panorama Lapangan Perdana here with what is believed to be a flashbang, or stun grenade.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspects were seen in CCTV footage planting the explosive in front of the premises at about 5am on Sunday (Aug 31).

"After placing the explosive, they left on a motorcycle.

"The explosion caused the roller shutter and floor to be damaged," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 1).

"The shop next door also sustained minor damage to a signboard and wall."

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged by a 43-year-old woman.

He added that the explosive was not meant to cause injuries or kill, but to intimidate or damage property.

"The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code (for mischief by fire or explosive).

"We are trying to track down the individuals involved and urge those with information to come forward to the nearest police station or contact investigating officer Insp Mohamad Al Hakim Al Balkhis at 011-1125 6246 or the Ipoh district police at 05-245 1500," he said.
