PETALING JAYA: A civil servant attached to the Bentong Prison has been arrested by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after allegedly smuggling in contraband for prisoners.
Sources say that the suspect had received RM4,500 in bribes from family members of several inmates as payment for bringing in prohibited items for the inmates’ use.
“Preliminary investigations found that the bribe payments were deposited into the suspect’s bank account between January and March 2026,” sources said.
The suspect, who is in his forties, has since been arrested and remanded until July 30 after being brought to a Kuantan Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Pahang MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
