KAJANG: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has been urged to convene an inquest into the death of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officer Training Unit (Palapes) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin immediately.
The lawyer representing the family, Datuk Naran Singh, said this is crucial to uncover the truth behind his death, once a second post-mortem is completed.

"I hope an inquest will now be made mandatory so that the truth can be established – just like in the case of Zara (Qairina Mahathir),” he told reporters outside the Kampung Rinching Hulu Muslim Cemetery on Friday (Aug 29).
Syamsul Haris' remains were exhumed this morning, following a Shah Alam High Court order, for a second post-mortem to be conducted.
Naran said he had submitted a formal request for an inquest to the AGC earlier but did not get a response.

“This latest development (the exhumation) should pave the way for an inquest so the real cause of Syamsul Haris’ death can be determined,” he added.
Syamsul Haris He passed away at Hospital Kota Tinggi in Johor on July 28, a day after undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram.
Naran said Syamsul Haris’ mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, was distressed by conflicting reports, some stating that her son died of a seizure, while others claimed he was involved in a fight.
"Any mother would want clear answers," he added.
