KLANG: Police have classified the deaths of two people, including an eight-year-old boy, in a shoplot fire here on Wednesday (Aug 12) as sudden deaths.
Klang Selatan OCPD Asst Comm Lim Jit Huey said police received a report on the fire of a three-storey shoplot in Jalan Batu Unjur 9, Taman Bayu Perdana at 5.49pm.
“Police, together with the Fire and Rescue Department, immediately rushed to the scene. The fire was completely brought under control in about one hour.
“Checks at the scene found two victims, aged 66 and eight, who were confirmed dead. The forensic team was also present to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 13).
ACP Lim said the department was still investigating the cause of the fire, and the police were conducting investigations into the deaths.
He urged the public not to speculate about the incident.
The department identified the victims as an uncle and his nephew.
In a statement on Wednesday (Aug 12), Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the two victims were found in separate toilets on the second floor at about 6.33pm after firefighters put out the blaze.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.
Ashrul Riezal said the fire involved the second floor, with about 90% of the 20ft by 70ft area affected.
The department’s forensic and K9 teams also conducted initial investigations at the scene before the premises were handed over to its fire investigation team for further action.
