Fire guts furniture factory in Johor Jaya, operation ongoing

JOHOR BARU: An operation is still ongoing to contain a fire which broke out at a furniture factory at Jalan Cemerlang, Taman Cemerlang industrial park in Johor Jaya near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre received an emergency call about the incident on Thursday (Aug 28) at 6.43pm.

“Our men were deployed to the scene located about 8km away and arrived there at 6.55pm,” Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Faiz Ramli said in a statement.

He said 31 firefighters from Johor Jaya, Tebrau and Kempas Fire and Rescue Department stations were involved in the operation.

They were assisted by volunteer fire teams from Ulu Tiram, Mount Austin and Ulu Tebrau.

The operation team, with three fire rapid tender vehicles and three emergency medical response service vehicles, was led by senior officer II Mohd Salleh KVP Mohamad.

The team also involved Mohd Faiz, senior officer II Rosfarawadi Ismani Ismail, and three assistant officers, Othman Mohd Baher, Nozar Faris Nazari and Mohd Fadhil Md Ruday.

Mohd Faiz said the fire gutted the double-storey furniture factory, damaging 80% of the building, adding there were no victims in the incident.

"We managed to control the fire at 8.57pm but the operation is still ongoing," he said.
