Sultan of Brunei leaves for home after state visit to Malaysia

SUBANG JAYA: The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, departed for home on Wednesday (Aug 27) after his three-day state visit to Malaysia, which began on Monday (Aug 25).

The special aircraft carrying Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his delegation, including Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah, Cabinet ministers and senior government officials, departed from the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base here at 3.05pm.

Present to bid farewell to His Majesty and the delegation were Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah undertook the visit at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

On Tuesday (Aug 26), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah attended a state welcome ceremony at Istana Negara.

Following the ceremony, the Sultan of Brunei had an audience with Sultan Ibrahim, during which they discussed, among other matters, the long-standing close bilateral ties between Malaysia and Brunei.

Earlier Wednesday, Anwar and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah held discussions as part of the 26th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders' Consultation at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

The Prime Minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his delegation at the Prime Minister's official residence at 11.25am.

In 2024, Brunei was Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner in Asean, with total trade valued at RM7.53bil (US$1.77bil).

For the period January to June 2025, Malaysia-Brunei trade reached US$690mil (RM3.02bil), comprising exports of US$500mil (RM2.18bil) and imports of US$190mil (RM840mil). - Bernama
