Storm rips off Perlis school's roof, 207 pupils to do classes online


KANGAR: Part of the roof of SK Seri Perlis here has been blown away by strong winds, requiring 207 students to temporarily adopt home-based teaching and learning.

Perlis Education Director Rose Aza Che Arifin said the incident, which occurred at 5.20pm, affected Year One classes involving two classes with 70 pupils, Year Two (two classes, 74 pupils), Preschool (one class, 25 pupils), and the Integrated Special Education Program with five classes involving 38 pupils at the school.

"The Perlis Education Department has informed the students' guardians and all immediate steps are being taken so that repair work can be carried out as soon as possible. We have also requested funding from the Education Ministry," she told reporters on Monday (Aug 25).

Rose Aza said the school has also been asked to ensure that student learning is continuously monitored so they do not fall behind.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, in a Facebook post said she has asked the Perlis Education Department to provide a full report on the damage and funds will be channelled so repair work can be carried out immediately.

"Thankfully, no students, teachers, or school staff were affected in this incident," she said.

Meanwhile, Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed the incident and said that a part of the school roof also fell on the car and damaged it. – Bernama
