Senior citizen killed in excavation site mishap

IPOH: A 60-year-old man died after he was trapped inside an excavator and buried in soil while carrying out excavation works at a hillside in Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant operations director Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said they received a distress call at 1.52pm on Monday (Aug 25).

A team from the Simpang Pulai fire station arrived at the scene, about 10km away, at 2.07pm.

“Part of the (slope) had collapsed onto the operator’s cabin, leaving the victim trapped.

“Another excavator was used to remove the soil covering the machine,” Shazlean said in a statement.

Shazlean said the victim was extricated but confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“His remains were later handed over to the police for further action," he added.
