Arsonist sets Melaka cop's two cars ablaze, inadvertently destroys own bike

MELAKA: Two cars parked at a policeman's house in Taman Bukit Katil Permai here have been destroyed by fire in an act of arson, says Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

He said the house owner, who is a policeman at the Kandang police station, lodged a report on Saturday (Aug 23).

"Two cars parked in the porch were destroyed as well as a motorcycle on the road near the scene," he said on Sunday (Aug 24).

ACP Christopher Patit said that the burnt motorcycle is believed to belong to the suspect, who narrowly escaped after the blaze spread.

"No witnesses have been identified so far but we are reviewing CCTV footage from the victim's residence," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
