No elements of sexual assault in student's murder, say Subang Jaya cops

SUBANG JAYA: The investigation into the death of a college student found hanged from a ceiling fan in the living room of her home has not pointed to any sexual crime so far, police say.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said they have taken statements from 30 individuals, including the victim’s family members, neighbours and friends.

He added that five more people may be called in to assist in the investigation.

“Some statements need to be taken again.

"This case will take a little more time to complete, and for now, the investigation does not indicate elements of sexual assault,” he told a press conference here on Friday (Aug 22).

ACP Wan Azlan said police have also reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from around the victim’s residence, though analysis is still ongoing.

Earlier reports stated that the victim’s death had been classified as murder.

Police received a distress call at 11.55am on Aug 14 informing them that a woman in her 20s had been found hanged in her home in USJ 2/1.

A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Serdang revealed that the cause of death was bleeding around the hyoid bone, with injuries to the victim’s muscles and bones consistent with manual strangulation.
