Speaker’s ‘microphone’ advice sparks laughter in Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: A light-hearted exchange in the Dewan Rakyat drew chuckles when Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul advised Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to pull the microphone closer and speak louder during her winding-up speech.

The moment unfolded after Kamal Ashaari (PN-Kuala Krau) sought permission to interrupt, quipping that the minister should come closer to the microphone so that her remarks could be heard more clearly.

“Speaker, can you ask the minister to get nearer to the microphone?” Kamal said during the debate on the Education Ministry’s portion of the 13th Malaysia Plan on Wednesday (Aug 20).

Johari promptly agreed, before adding his own humorous twist.

“Yes, minister, please pull the mic closer to your mouth. Can’t hear you clearly… when you’re far, your voice sounds too sexy. Closer, please,” he teased, sending MPs into laughter.

Fadhlina, not missing a beat, delivered her reply with equal wit:

“Tan Sri Speaker, my husband is watching this live,” she said casually, before continuing her winding-up speech to more laughter across the chamber.
