Animal lovers raise RM51,100 as reward to catch Biao Mei's killer

MELAKA: Outrage and compassion have united animal lovers, who have raised RM51,100 as a reward to bring those, who skinned a stray dog alive to justice.

Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) president R. Kalaivanan said the amount was raised through donations from the public and local businesses.

“We hope that with this cash reward, the perpetrators can be identified and charged in a court of law,” he said after a peaceful gathering organised by SAFM in collaboration with the Melaka Fursave Association at Taman Merdeka Jaya here on Wednesday (August 20).

Lawyer Kent Tan Chow Teng was also present as legal adviser to the animal lovers.

The gathering drew participants from Melaka as well as animal enthusiasts who travelled from the Klang Valley and Johor.

Kalaivanan also revealed that two additional police reports were lodged on Wednesday (Aug 20).

“We hope that the authorities will identify those behind this inhumane act and take punitive action against them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tan urged eyewitnesses to step forward with information.

“Since police reports have already been lodged, we trust the authorities will investigate thoroughly and bring the culprits to justice,” he said.

The merciless act against the stray took place on Friday (Aug 15).

The dog, later named Biao Mei by an animal lover who had been feeding her, was euthanised by a veterinarian due to severe infection and the extent of the injuries.
