He was president of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam and a founding member of the Malaysian AIDS Council and the Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.

> A man in India killed his 23-year-old daughter and himself because she could not find a husband, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Thanaletchumi, who lived in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, with her parents, apparently kept getting rejected by prospective matches due to her health complications.
The young woman and her father, Pazhaniappan, 55, were both saddened by the situation.
Worried about her husband after not being able to reach him, Pazhaniappan’s wife Vijaya, who was away with their son, asked relatives to check on him.
They found Pazhaniappan hanging from a noose.
Thanaletchumi’s body was nearby, covered in a silk saree, wearing a garland, and accompanied by other evidence of funeral rites being performed.
