Kajang cops nab trio who allegedly conspired to conceal teen birth

KAJANG: Three people including a security guard were detained over the discovery of a baby girl left in a box at a petrol station in Batu 14, Hulu Langat.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the 29-year-old security guard had initially lodged a report claiming he had found the newborn, who was still alive, around 1.56am on July 11.

"The infant, believed to have been abandoned by an unidentified individual, was taken to a hospital for observation and was found to be in good health," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 13).

However, investigations later revealed that the report was fabricated.

"We established that the security guard had conspired with a 39-year-old deliveryman, who is alleged to have committed incest with his 16-year-old daughter, who is not in school, resulting in the birth of the baby.

“The suspects are believed to have disposed of the baby and concealed the birth," he said.

Police detained the three individuals at about 5.35pm on Tuesday (Aug 12).

"The two men have been remanded while the teenage mother was released on police bail and remains in hospital for examination and further treatment," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposure and abandonment of a child under 12, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

"The deliveryman is also being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code for incest with a minor, which provides for imprisonment of between eight and 30 years, and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

"We urge those with information to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Hizwan Hamzah at 019-6369835 or any nearest police station," he said.
