New KL police chief ‘returns home’

KUALA LUMPUR: Creating closer ties with the public will be the focal point of the Kuala Lumpur police under the leadership of Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus.

The newly-appointed Kuala Lumpur police chief said close cooperation between the police and the public is key to combating and preventing crimes.

“We will go all out to achieve the vision and mission of the police force.

“In this context, cooperation between the police and the public is important in achieving our targets, thus I will inform all KL police officers and personnel to engage with communities,” he told reporters after the handing over ceremony at KL police headquarters yesterday.

Comm Fadil, who was previously the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director, took over from Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, who held the post in an acting capacity.

He said all resources would be optimised towards preserving public order and peace.

“While there are many challenges for the police, especially in Kuala Lumpur, we will overcome them as a team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, who witnessed the handing over ceremony, said it is like a “return home” for Comm Fadil, who last served in KL as an investigating officer in 2007.

“I am sure with his vast experience, Comm Fadil will be able to lead the KL police contingent to new heights.

“He is the right choice as he has good and credible leadership skills,” Comm Rusdi said in his speech.

Comm Rusdi said the role of police as law enforcers is becoming more challenging.

“Focus on preserving public order and peace while giving your best.

“I hope all KL police officers and personnel will give their full cooperation to Comm Fadil.”
