Closer ties with the public a key focus for KL's new top cop

KUALA LUMPUR: Forging closer ties with the public will be the focal point of the Kuala Lumpur police under the leadership of Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus.

The newly-minted Kuala Lumpur police chief said close cooperation between the police and the public is integral in combating and preventing crimes.

"We will go all out to achieve the vision and mission of the police force.

"In this context, cooperation between the police and the public is important in achieving our targets thus I will emphasise to all KL officers and personnel to be active with communities," he told reporters after the handing over ceremony at KL police headquarters on Monday (Aug 11).

Comm Fadil, who was previously the Bukit Aman CID deputy director, takes over from Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, who held the post in an acting capacity.

Comm Fadil said all resources will be optimised towards preserving public order and peace.

"While there are many challenges for the police, especially in Kuala Lumpur, we will overcome it as a team," he said.
