Man charged with trafficking 65kg of ganja

PASIR MAS: A man, wanted by the police four years ago in connection with the death of a seven-month pregnant woman, was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (Aug 6) with trafficking in 65kg of cannabis into the country.

Zulhakimy Aiman Suhairuddin, 24, along with two other individuals who have already been charged, were charged with trafficking the drug in a car in front of an unlicensed shophouse in Kampung Pak Jak, Alor Pasir, here at 2.50pm on March 22 this year.

No plea was recorded after the charge was read out to Zulhakimy Aiman before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides a sentence of hanging or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, shall be subject to not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Muhammad Baihaqy Mohd Saidi and Syazalia Che Suhaimin, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court set Sept 2 for mention of the case pending the chemical report. — Bernama
