KOTA KINABALU: A power outage at the Intan campus and its surrounding areas in Telipok here was caused by a cable theft attempt on early Sunday (Aug 3).

Sabah Electricity (SE) chief operating officer, Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusuf, said that the thieves were attempting to steal underground cable that connects the power processing units (PPU) in Kibing to the PPU Menggatal.

He said that the theft caused severe damage to the 33kV cable, affecting the surrounding areas starting at noon on Sunday. In response, SE installed five mobile generators in the affected areas.

Mohd Yusmanizam said the repair team worked through the night and managed to restore power at 5.14am on Monday (Aug 4).
