KOTA KINABALU: A power outage at the Intan campus and its surrounding areas in Telipok here was caused by a cable theft attempt on early Sunday (Aug 3).

Sabah Electricity (SE) chief operating officer, Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusuf, said that the thieves were attempting to steal underground cable that connects the power processing units (PPU) in Kibing to the PPU Menggatal.

He said that the theft caused severe damage to the 33kV cable, affecting the surrounding areas starting at noon on Sunday. In response, SE installed five mobile generators in the affected areas.

Mohd Yusmanizam said the repair team worked through the night and managed to restore power at 5.14am on Monday (Aug 4).

Sabah Electricity deeply regrets the inconvenience caused by this incident and thanks all affected consumers for their patience and cooperation.

Sabah Electricity also urges the public to be vigilant for any suspicious activity near electrical facilities and to report it immediately to the authorities or Sabah Electricity Careline at 15444 or WhatsApp 019-852 5427.
