KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's negotiations with the United States on reciprocal tariffs have concluded, with the nation now awaiting an official response from US President Donald Trump.
In an Instagram post on Thursday (July 31), Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had an early morning phone call with President Trump to discuss the status of the tariffs.
"The Malaysia-US tariff negotiations are now concluded," Tengku Zafrul said.
"Shortly after President Trump was briefed on the matter, I was contacted by Ambassador Jamieson Greer, the US Trade Representative, who informed me of the developments."
He added that both parties are now awaiting President Trump’s official response, expected by tomorrow (Aug 1).
"Once the response is received, a joint statement will be issued by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the Investment, Trade and Industry MInistry (Miti) to outline the detailed terms of the agreement," he said.
