Wildfires raging over almost 90ha of land in Sarawak


SIBU: Wildfires are still burning at four locations in Sarawak, affecting over 88 hectares of land, with the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department continuing efforts to extinguish the flames.

According to a department spokesman, the largest fire involves a pineapple plantation in Marudi, Miri division, covering an area of 80.15ha, followed by a former landfill in Kampung Plaie, Kota Samarahan, covering 4ha.

The other two locations are a 2ha forest area near the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah campus, and the Kampung Jerijih landfill in Tanjung Mani, covering another 2ha.

Meanwhile, according to the Environment Department website, the air pollution index (API) readings recorded at 12 stations in Sarawak as of 12.40pm on Tuesday (July 29) were still at a moderate level between 53 and 74. – Bernama
