DBKK to restore gutted community centre


The historical Kota Kinabalu Community Hall was destroyed in a fire Tuesday (July 29).

KOTA KINABALU: The community centre that was destroyed in a fire will be restored, says Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).

"DBKK is currently assessing the damage and planning restoration work," it said in a statement on Tuesday (July 29).

A fire at 12.30am destroyed nearly 80% of the centre in the heart of the town.

It was opened in 1958 and served as the venue for many historic events before and after the formation of Malaysia.

DBKK said that with operations of the hall temporarily halted, those who have paid booking fees may seek refunds at its  Property Management Department on the seventh floor of the Centre Point Sabah building.

The recycling centre, which was also destroyed in the fire, will be relocated to the Damai Multipurpose Hall from mid-August, DBKK added.
