Army man remanded five days over alleged sexual assault of five-year-old girl

ALOR GAJAH: A 32-year-old Army sergeant has been remanded for five days at a Magistrate’s Court here to assist investigations into an alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 on Friday (July 25).

The suspect, who is a father of one, is also facing five other earlier charges in a separate case involving a 13-year-old girl from a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) here.

The teenager is believed to be the elder sister of the five-year-old in the latest case.

According to a source close to the investigation, the child only recently informed her mother about what had happened during an afternoon, sometime in January.

The source said the victim was on her way home from kindergarten when the suspect, known to the family, offered to take her for a short drive around the neighbourhood.

During the outing, he allegedly bought her ice cream and later acted inappropriately towards her.

The victim, the youngest of five siblings, claimed that the suspect had approached her on more than one occasion, often using treats as bait to take advantage of her.

Following a police report lodged by the family, the suspect was detained on Thursday (July 24).
