Majority to see reduced electricity bills despite tariff restructuring, says PM

PETALING JAYA: Despite the restructuring of the electricity tariff, over 85% of domestic users will see a reduction in their electricity bills from July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured critics.

"Although the restructured electricity tariff began in July, the people’s electricity bill has not increased," he said during a special announcement broadcast on national television and his social media pages on Thursday (July 23).

He mentioned that some users experienced a reduction of up to 14% compared to the first half of the year.

"This is unlike the slander that was spread," he remarked.

"When the tariff increased, the cost would reduce, hence the bill would be lower. Check your electricity bills," he urged.

The Electricity Tariff Restructuring came into effect on July 1.
