Penang doctor arrested for molesting female patient

BALIK PULAU: A 43-year-old doctor has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of a female patient at a private clinic in Bayan Baru.

Balik Pulau OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said the suspect was arrested at the district police headquarters here on Monday (July 21) around 8pm.

"The suspect was asked to present himself to assist investigations," he said.

ACP Sazalee said the suspect was arrested after a woman in her 30s lodged a report on July 18, claiming she was molested by the doctor during a medical consultation on June 29.

ACP Sazalee said at 11.46am, the victim sought treatment at the clinic for abdominal pain.

During the examination, the doctor allegedly instructed her to remove her top and proceeded to touch both her breasts," he said.

Following the arrest, police also seized the doctor’s mobile phone to assist in the ongoing investigation.

It is learnt that the doctor has been remanded for three days until July 23.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.

It was reported that the suspect had been arrested on three separate occasions for similar incidents involving three female victims.

The suspect allegedly instructed patients to undress and perform on-the-spot exercises under the guise of further examination.

He is also alleged to have recorded images of the victims' bodies using his mobile phone during the sessions.
