PKR to study calls for disciplinary investigation, membership suspension of nine MPs

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is looking into calls for nine of its MPs to face disciplinary investigation following their action of holding an open press conference to demand the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the judiciary issue.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the party is also looking into calls received from party members for the nine MPs to be temporarily suspended following the incident.

She said an official report on the calls would be tabled at the Central Leadership Council (MPP) meeting scheduled to be held in two weeks.

"The call has already reached me and is in my knowledge. So now, the Secretary-General's Office will look into it and take further action," she said when contacted by Bernama on Sunday (July 13).

According to Fuziah, the report would be studied according to the party's code of ethics to determine whether their actions violated party rules.

"I am just carrying out my duties. The MPP will discuss and make decisions. We have a code of ethics, so it needs to be studied whether the action violates it or not," she said.

Earlier, former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli along with eight other MPs from the party appeared in a press conference urging the government to establish an RCI and a Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) regarding judicial appointments.

On Saturday (July 12), 19 Johor PKR branch chiefs and 11 Kedah PKR branch chiefs called for a disciplinary investigation and temporary suspension of membership on all nine MPs involved.

Commenting further, Fuziah said the demand was received by her office earlier, before it was released to the media. - Bernama
