MACC signs letter of intent with IACA to curb corruption at international level

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) to explore new opportunities in the corruption prevention field at the international level.

The commission said that the LOI was signed here on Thursday (July 10) by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and IACA deacon Prof Slagjana Tasevayang.

Azam was quoted as saying at the signing that the commission and IACA could work together using their expertise, especially in capacity building and the ability to combat corruption, adding that the commission was confident that the signing would allow MACC officers and regional partners to benefit from global expertise, academic resources and the IACA's network of professionals.

"The global technological advancements also bring new change, where there exists transnational corruption, complex financial crime and sophisticated digital threats.

"With such complex developments, no agency or country can stand on its own," he added.

IACA advisor Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed; MACC Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy senior director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar and MACC Policy, Planning and Research Division director Rasidah Abdul Karim were also present at the signing. - Bernama
