Mother claims teacher roughed up her 11-year-old son

ALOR SETAR: A woman is claiming that a teacher at a school here roughed up her 11-year-old son, leaving him with a bloodied ear.

The woman alleged that the male teacher scolded her son before slapping him on the left cheek, pulling his hair and ears before shoving him into a table.

"My son informed me that the teacher was filling in for another subject (teacher). At about 1.15pm, a parent called and told me about the incident," she said on Thursday (July 10).

The woman and her husband then took their son to a private hospital where an examination revealed bruising on the inside of his ear and bleeding from the earlobe. They subsequently lodged a report at the Langgar police station.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad confirmed that they had received a report.

In a statement, the Kedah State Education Department said an initial report had been received from the school and the district education office over the matter.

"We are conducting further investigations into the incident. We, together with the Education Ministry, will ensure a thorough and transparent investigation," the statement said.

Any action to be taken will be based on the procedures set by the ministry, it said. – Bernama
