Firm action against Selangor mosque administrators defying preaching rules, says exco

SHAH ALAM: Mosque administrators in Selangor who remain defiant and continue to allow unaccredited preachers to give lectures or teach may face dismissal, says State Islamic Religious Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

He said the measure was necessary to preserve the sanctity and integrity of dakwah in Selangor, as well as to safeguard the people's faith.

"The state government must adopt a firm approach. Mosque administrators (who allow individuals without teaching credentials to teach) should be dismissed. We have a mosque management model that must be followed to prevent any violations.

"The issue is inviting preachers without teaching credentials. It is strictly prohibited, and if this happens, the mosque administrator must be dismissed," he said when met at the lobby of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly building here on Monday (July 6).

He was commenting on a case involving an independent speaker, currently under investigation for allegedly disseminating sex videos featuring his wives and several women, who were said to be active in giving religious talks in Selangor.

On Sunday (July 6), the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), in a statement, said it had revoked the preacher's teaching credentials in 2022.

Mais chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department previously detained the individual in September 2024 for teaching without valid credentials.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Fahmi said that, to date, action had been taken against at least 87 mosque administrators in Selangor following complaints involving management misconduct. – Bernama
