500 more cancer patients to get free treatment at IHH Healthcare Malaysia hospitals

PUTRAJAYA: An additional 500 cancer patients will receive free treatment at IHH Healthcare Malaysia hospitals starting this month, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

This positive news comes following the signing of a third memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry and IHH Healthcare Malaysia.

The Health Minister revealed that the agreement would bring the total number of participating IHH facilities to 8 hospitals, including the newly added Island Hospital in Penang.

Dzukefly said these facilities were equipped with Gamma Knife and LINAC technologies, allowing for precise, high-impact treatment, especially for tumours located in sensitive areas.

“The types of cases available for treatment include brain tumours, brain metastases, head and neck cancers, as well as various other cancers such as lung, breast, colon and lymphoma,” he said in a speech at the MoU signing ceremony here on Monday (July 7).

Aimed at expanding access to cancer treatment for patients referred from Health Ministry hospitals, Dzukefly said the MoU signing would serve as a catalyst to strengthening public-private collaboration in the fight against cancer.

“This MoU will continue to support MOH's efforts in tackling cancer while broadening access to cancer care and treatment across the country.

“This collaboration is a concrete step toward closing the access gap for underserved and lower-income groups,” he said, adding that this third MoU will be in effect until January 2027.

He also called for sustained commitment from all stakeholders across the healthcare sector to continue helping the Ministry build a system where early detection, advanced treatment, and compassionate support would be available to every patient, everywhere.
