Musician detained for allegedly assaulting housemate with metal rod over noise dispute

AMPANG: A local musician has been detained for allegedly assaulting his housemate with a metal rod following a dispute over noise in Pandan Indah.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail stated that the 46-year-old suspect was detained over the incident, which occurred on June 30.

"The 52-year-old male victim, who works as a cook, was asleep in his rented room at around 6.30am when he was awakened by the loud slamming of a bathroom door next door.

"Annoyed by the disturbance, the victim went out and slammed the door in return," he said in a statement on Friday (July 4).

Shortly after, the suspect allegedly emerged with a metal rod and struck the victim.

"An argument reportedly ensued, and the suspect threatened to call others to assault the victim.

"The victim suffered injuries to his hand and later lodged a police report," he added.

ACP Mohd Azam said the suspect was detained at about 4.45pm on July 2.

"He tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal record. We believe the incident occurred due to an ongoing dispute over noise, particularly loud music played by the suspect, which had reportedly disturbed the victim’s rest on multiple occasions despite repeated warnings.

"The suspect was released on police bail after having his statement recorded," he said.
