Senior citizen rescued after falling into disused well


A 68-year-old woman who fell in a well was rescued by firefighters.

IPOH: A 68-year-old woman was rescued after she fell into an abandoned well behind her house in Tanjung Rambutan on Wednesday (July 2) morning.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a distress call at 8.40am and sent a team from the Tambun station to the location.

He said the team arrived in South Ward in Tanjung Rambutan within eight minutes.

“Upon arrival, they discovered that the woman had fallen into the 3m-deep uncovered well, which was about 1m across.

“One firefighter descended into the well to assist the victim.

“The woman was secured in a harness and strapped onto a stretcher before being hoisted to safety," he said.

He added that the victim was then taken to the hospital for treatment.
