Teacher ordered to enter defence for sexual assault of student


SEREMBAN: A 47-year-old teacher has been ordered to enter his defence in a charge of committing physical sexual assault against a 13-year-old female student nearly three years ago.

Sessions judge Surita Budin ruled here on Monday (June 30) that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against Farid Azhar Nawi.

"Based on evidence from prosecution witnesses, exhibits before the court and upon making a maximum evaluation, the court finds that a prima facie case has been established against the accused.

"The accused is hereby ordered to enter his defence to the charge," she said.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at around 5.30pm on Aug 4, 2022 in the surau of a school in Senawang.

He was charged under section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(c).

Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and caned upon conviction.

Surita then fixed July 18 for next mention and Aug 1 and 14 for trial.
