Body of missing woman found in Muar river

MUAR: The body of a woman was found in a river here, a few hours before she was reported missing by her family.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received a report about the discovery of the 52-year-old woman’s body at about 1.20pm on Friday (June 27).

“The complainant made the report after coming across an object resembling a body floating in the Muar river near Dataran Tanjung Emas here.

“The body was then recovered with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department.

“Initial investigations suggest that she had drowned, while checks at the scene found no criminal elements so far,” he said in a statement, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.

He added that the victim’s body was sent to the forensic unit at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for an autopsy.

“The deceased’s sister filed a missing person report at about 3.10pm the same day, about two hours after the body was found.

“She has been taken to the hospital to identify the body and confirmed that it was indeed her missing sister,” he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz also urged witnesses to contact investigating officer ASP Suhaimi Ahmad at 013-3975290 or go to the district police headquarters to assist in the investigation.
