Three men arrested for suspected ketum possession in Penampang

KOTA KINABALU: Three men have been arrested for possessing liquids believed to be ketum in the Penampang district.

The suspects are aged between 33 and 41 and were apprehended in separate operations conducted on Tuesday (June 24), said Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton.

He said police also seized a total of 53 bottles (78 litres) of these substances, valued at about RM1,320.

The suspects have been taken to the police station for investigation under the Poisons Act 1952, he said.

Supt Sammy said if convicted, these men could face up to four years in jail, a fine of RM10,000 or both.

“We will continue to conduct operations against crime and we hope to get the public’s cooperation to provide information about any suspicious activities around them,” he said, adding there would be no compromise against crime.
