Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the cause of the loud boom that was heard in several areas in the district, which was followed by a brief tremor at about 10.30am yesterday, remains unknown.

“We have checked several areas to identify the source of the noise.

“The Northern Brigade of the General Operations Force did not have any exercises involving explosives,” he said in a statement.

“A check with the Land and Mines Office also confirmed that no detonation activities have taken place at quarries before noon.

“The Meteorological Department also found no seismic activities recorded in the district.

“As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or damages to properties received.

“The investigation will continue with the relevant agencies to ensure public safety,” added ACP Abang Zainal Abidin.

Based on social media posts, the noise was heard in Chemor, Chepor and Tanah Hitam.

The boom could also be heard in the Tasek and Gunung Lang areas.

A similar incident occurred on Oct 21 last year and October 2018.

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin called for calm and urged the people to not speculate on the matter, especially on social media, to prevent confusion or public anxiety.
