KOTA KINABALU: The whistleblower in the Sabah mining scandal is expected to be charged on Monday (June 30).
According to an online news portal, the whistleblower’s lawyer Mahajoth Singh, revealed that his client is set to face charges in court on that date.
The whistleblower was previously summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya to provide further statements before being released in the evening.
Mahajoth described the decision to charge as shocking and disappointing, noting that the scandal would not have been investigated without his client’s information.
He expressed that his client took a significant personal risk in exposing the scandal and is now being 'rewarded' in this way.
In addition to the whistleblower, the MACC in Sabah also summoned Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob to give further statements about the case.
The assemblyman was called to the Sabah MACC headquarters in the morning and was released about four hours later, according to a source.
Earlier, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that three people, including two assemblymen and a civilian, are expected to be charged by the end of this month.
