PETALING JAYA: No Malaysians are involved in the recent Air India plane crash, says Wisma Putra.
The Foreign Ministry said that it would continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary updates.
“The Foreign Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai, is closely monitoring the situation following reports of the crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad Airport during takeoff on June 12.
“The aircraft, a Boeing 787, was en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick and was reportedly carrying approximately 242 passengers,” it said in a statement on Thursday (June 12).

Earlier, Air India confirmed that its Flight 171 from the western city of Ahmedabad to London Gatwick had crashed in a "tragic accident".
"With profound sorrow, I confirm that Air India Flight 171 operating Ahmedabad - London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today," Air India chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said in a statement.
The plane, with more than 240 passengers onboard, crashed near Forensic Cross Road in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended condolences to the affected family members of the passengers.
“I am deeply distressed to learn of the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 near Ahmedabad, India.
“On behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those affected,” he said in a social media post.
“We share in India’s sorrow and stand in full solidarity as relief efforts continue. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and with everyone mourning this terrible loss,” he added.
